We know that Microsoft's HoloLens 2 is due to start shipping later this year, but despite the trickle of news about the device, we still don't know when.
Now, a new set of documents on the Federal Communications Commission website confirms we probably won't have TOO much longer to wait.
In the filing posted on the FCC's website on Friday, a collection of documents details Microsoft's registration of a product that includes "a radio transceiver device with IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac MIMO radio supporting 20/40/80MHz bandwidths, [and] Bluetooth 5.0." Those specifications align with what we already know about the HoloLens 2.
Another part of the document includes a diagram (below) that indicates where regulatory information on the device will be affixed. And while the documents don't mention the HoloLens explicitly, its shape is unmistakable.

Later in the collection of the documents, Microsoft asks that information including external photos, test setup photos, user's manual, and internal images remain confidential.
"We are requesting the commission to grant short-term confidentiality on the following attachments until January 19, 2020," writes Microsoft compliance engineer Chaitrali Limaye, in a letter dated June 6.
So although the documents don't reveal the exact release date of the long-awaited HoloLens 2, we now have a reliable indication that the device will arrive in the next couple of months, since these kinds of FCC documents usually surface at least a couple of months ahead of a product's official release.
Nevertheless, Microsoft has been full of surprises lately, so don't be surprised if the device is available even sooner than we think.
